How do I reset my password when connected to my network remotely?

Most corporate networks have a password policy that requires periodic resets. When you are working remotely this can be a challenge because of the way that password resets are communicated to your servers on your corporate network.

Scenario 1: I am connected to my office network using a corporate laptop on a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection.

When you are connected via a VPN connection your laptop is directly connected to your corporate network. Therefore, when you reset your password while connected to VPN, the password reset will register with your company's servers right away as well as on your laptop. To change your password this way:

1. Ensure your VPN connection is active and connected.
2. Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del on your keyboard.
3. Click Change a Password.
4. Enter your current password and then your desired password (need to enter it twice) and click the right arrow.

Scenario 2: I am connected to my office using a Remote Desktop (RDS or RDP) connection.

When you are connected via a remote desktop connection either to your corporate desktop or to a remote desktop server, you can trigger a password reset on the remote computer. When accessing using the remote desktop, you may be using a company-issued laptop or even your own home computer/tablet. In this scenario, pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination will apply to your own computer and not the remote computer. To send a Ctrl-Alt-Del to the remote computer, use the Ctrl-Alt-End key combination instead.

1. Ensure you are in the remote desktop screen.
2. Hit Ctrl-Alt-End on your keyboard.
3. Click Change a Password.
4. Enter your current password and then your desired password (need to enter it twice) and click the right arrow.
